Panaji: The opposition parties blamed govt for the acid attack on a teen at Dhargalim on Monday and said that anti-social elements no longer fear the law-and-order machinery.Congress, GFP and AAP called for a swift probe to ensure that the 17-year-old boy injured in the attack gets justice.Leader of the opposition Yuri Alemao called for measures to prevent such crimes.“Goa — once peaceful — is now witnessing crimes we never imagined. From daylight murders to drug mafias roaming free, and now acid attacks — this is not the Goa we know, nor the Goa we deserve. If govt cannot protect its citizens from such barbaric crimes, it has no moral right to remain in power,” said state Congress president Amit Patkar.GFP president Vijai Sardesai said that the attack indicates that there is no sign of law and order or governance in the state. “I have never seen such things happening in Goa. The situation in Bihar where a girl could be abducted if she is not home before dark, now such things will happen in Goa. Goans are becoming a minority in Goa and those who have come in are doing ‘dadagiri’ in collusion with govt. There is no accountability,” he said.AAP also weighed in on the acid attack with its vice president Sunil Signapurkar blaming the BJP-led govt and the Pernem MLA for the attack. He said that criminals have no fear of the law under BJP.“The MLA of Pernem seems to be too busy building his fortune to bother about his constituents. Will the CM ensure the harshest punishment for the perpetrator to deter such attacks or will he allow this to be swept under the carpet after a few days of outrage?” Signapurkar said.
