Bengaluru: Soon, KSR Bengaluru railway station will get a second eatery themed on the lines of a train compartment. This will be the third rail coach restaurant in Bengaluru. Currently, two such restaurants are functional in KSR Bengaluru and SMVT Bengaluru stations, respectively, and both are licenced out to private operators.“A third rail coach restaurant is under commissioning to enhance passenger experience. Work is going on and is expected to be completed in 45 days. It will be located at the third entry of the station,” South Western Railway’s Bengaluru divisional railway manager, Ashutosh Kumar Singh, said. The project is an attempt to increase SWR’s non-fare revenue potential through catering. In the financial year 2025-26, SWR’s Bengaluru division earned a record total of nearly Rs 17.4 crore in catering service revenue, surpassing the previous best of Rs 16.5 crore.Additionally, SWR also plans to bring global fast-food brands to station platforms, promising airport-standard food for passengers on the move. Once civil construction is complete, the allotment of the shops — premium-brand catering outlets — will be conducted via an e-auction for a period of five years, similar to the existing catering stalls.
