BHUBANESWAR: In a significant move to bolster industrial security, chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi approved the formation of two additional battalions for the Odisha Industrial Security Force (OISF). This decision will create 2,080 new positions, with each battalion comprising 1,040 personnel. With this, the total number of OISF battalions rose to four, with a total of 4,927 positions. Earlier, the govt added the second battalion in April. The addition of these new battalions will enhance the force’s capacity to safeguard the state’s burgeoning industrial sector, a govt statement said. The expansion comes as part of the state govt’s strategic focus on industrial development, particularly following the ‘Utkarsha Odisha-Make in Odisha 2025′ initiative, which accelerated industrialisation. With the establishment of new industries, the demand for robust security measures at key industrial and commercial sites has become increasingly critical. The newly approved positions include 1,944 regular roles and 136 outsourced roles.
