Jaipur: The drinking water supply to Jaipur city will be temporarily affected due to essential routine repair works being undertaken under the Bisalpur–Jaipur Drinking Water Project from Sunday morning.Ajay Singh Rathore, Additional Chief Engineer (Zone II), Jaipur of PHED, said the operations at the Surajpura pumping station to Jaipur city will remain completely suspended for almost 24 hours from 8:00pm on Saturday. However, residents would feel the crisis from Sunday morning. While PHED will try to restore the situation from Monday evening, normalcy will restore only after Monday evening. “These repair works ae extremely essential, particularly in view of the upcoming summer season, to ensure an uninterrupted and smooth supply of drinking water in the future,” Rathore said.Following this decision, the department has appealed to the public to store enough drinking water in advance, keeping the scheduled period in mind, and cooperate, by utilising water judiciously and sparingly. Officials said that the maintenance work is a part of the department’ summer contingency plan. This work will ensure that PHED can transfer the maximum share of Jaipur’s quota from Bisalpur during the peak summer season. “In previous years we have seen that whenever we tried to transfer more water from Bisaplpur the system developed snag. This maintenance job would ensure that we can draw the maximum quota, if required,” an official said.
