Chennai: VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan on Wednesday said in a video message that there was no hidden agenda behind the party’s decision not to renominate sitting Nagapattinam MLA Aloor Shanavas.Thiruma said Shanavas was the party’s first choice for Nagapattinam and that he fixed the seat for him. But Shanavas expressed interest in shifting to Royapuram, a move that alliance lead DMK was open to. Later, Shanavas sought Pallavaram instead, but the request could not be accommodated as Pallavaram had been allotted to DMDK. “We had asked for Harur and Pallavaram but were instead allotted Arakkonam and Panruti. I wanted to field Shanavas, but Abdul Rahman also pressed his case. So, I gave Rahman an opportunity in Panruti. There is no agenda to deny Shanavas an opportunity,” Thiruma said, seeking to end speculation over Shanavas’ non-renomination.Earlier, Shanavas said “the leadership would decide who contests, when and how”. He said he would accept that decision and work for the victory of the party and alliance.
