Nitish Kumar to quit as Bihar CM; New Bihar Govt a day later

New Delhi: Nitish Kumar is set to resign as Bihar CM on Tuesday after presiding over the last Cabinet meeting. The notification for the meeting has been issued by the Cabinet Secretariat. Sources told ET that the Cabinet will pass a resolution thanking Kumar for leading Bihar for the longest period. After the meeting, Kumar, along with deputy CMs Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Sinha, and other senior NDA leaders will go to the Lok Bhavan to submit their resignations.

Sources told ET that the swearing in ceremony of the new government will take place in Patna on Wednesday. BJP has appointed Union minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan as central observer to elect the new legislative party leader, who will be the new CM.

After Kumar’s resignation, BJP will first elect its legislative party leader. Then, NDA MLAs will meet in presence of Kumar where a new CM will be announced. “The new government will work on Kumar’s policies and function under his guidance,” JDU working president Sanjay Jha told ET.

Meetings continued in Patna and New Delhi – While Choudhary met Kumar, BJP chief Nitin Nabin called on Union minister Amit Shah.
