Nabin’s strategy session drew on his own experiences with the recent assembly polls and the BJP’s impressive win in West Bengal, Assam and Puducherry. His maiden visit to Karnataka coincides with the Congress regime celebrating completion of three years and the party being upbeat on extending its success to another term, fuelled by gurantee schemes.
Nabin met with MPs, MLAs, MLCs, state office-bearers, morcha presidents and general secretaries, district unit chiefs, and heads of different departments at the party headquarters in Bengaluru. In a post on X, he said he held “productive discussions on organisational strengthening, enhancing coordination & cadre engagement, and finalising the roadmap for upcoming programs.”
The 46-year-old national president urged the party leaders to keep the party cadres active and involve them in mainstream activities. He also asked them to fight elections as a team by taking the workers into confidence, said a leader who participated in the meeting.
Nabin began his day in Bengaluru by having breakfast with BS Yediyurappa at his residence and visiting the Kadu Malleshwara temple. He prioritised visiting the veteran leader before attending the party work. “Yediyurappa played an invaluable role in expanding and strengthening the party in Karnataka. I extended my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to him for his 50 years of dedicated service in public life and his unwavering commitment to public welfare,” Nabin said in a post on X.
The BJP chief’s visit comes at a time when the party’s state unit has been torn apart by factions, and an air of uncertainty hangs over the future of BY Vijayendra, who will complete his three-year term as BJP president in November. The party is yet to confirm him as president, and it is not known if the party would continue him or prefer a new face as the party’s tally dropped in the Lok Sabha polls and it lost both seats in the recent assembly bypolls.
The BJP is gearing up to fight the corporation elections in Bengaluru as the Supreme Court has set an August 31 deadline for the government to complete the polls. Zilla and taluk panchayat elections are also due this year. The BJP team is keen to channelise public anger, if any, into votes in favour of the BJP.
