Panaji: NIT Goa director Omprakash Jaiswal, speaking at the 11th convocation ceremony of the institute, said that the NIT has proposed to the state that it will provide upskilling training to ITI students from Goa.“NIT Goa is ready to contribute and help the Goa region in all possible aspects. The institute has submitted the proposal to train ITI students of Goa, aiming at skill development and capacity building in various sectors. About 1,000 high school students have visited the campus to upgrade their knowledge and exposure towards science and technology,” Jaiswal said.He said that besides offering three MSc programmes at the NIT from the new academic year, the institute is also set to open its startup and incubation cell shortly.The NIT director said that NIT Goa has been granted 22 patents so far and eight are under process.He said despite fears of a recession, BTech graduates from NIT Goa have seen 82% placements. Jaiswal said that since the last two years, the institute has also started offering post-doctoral scholarships.“NIT Goa has started the implementation of NEP 2020 from the academic year 2023-24. Under this, the new curriculum offers minor programmes. Additionally, our new curriculum includes courses related to the Indian knowledge system and liberal arts, such as health and happiness, ancient economic thought: Indian perspectives through Kautilya and Arthashastra, vedic mathematics, science and technology in vedic literature, and professional ethics and universal human values and dramaturgy,” he said.In addition, NIT Goa has implemented flexible and interdisciplinary learning, skill development, industry-oriented learning, academic bank of credits, credit transfer etc, the director said.
