Kullu: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the Himachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board (HPSPCB) to inspect two industrial units in Una district over allegations of air and water pollution. In an order, NGT chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava asked the board to conduct inspections at Modulus Cosmetics Pvt Ltd and RRD Oil and Fats Pvt Ltd in Gondpur Jaichand, Haroli subdivision, and submit a detailed report. The board has also been asked to verify compliance with consent to operate (CTO) conditions. The directions came on a petition filed by Una resident Jatinder Singh, who alleged that the units were granted CTO despite discharging effluents into stormwater drains leading to the Swan river, causing pollution and health concerns.Citing reports of the pollution board and a senior medical officer in neighbouring Hoshiarpur, the petitioner claimed violations of environmental norms and adverse impact on residents. He also alleged that his complaint to the Una deputy commissioner was ignored and the units were given a clean chit without proper ground assessment. The NGT has fixed July 23 as the next date of hearing.
