Bengaluru: As elections to the five Bengaluru city corporations are approaching, commissioners of the civic bodies are now finding it a challenge to arrange space that can house the elected councils. Of the five corporations, four do not have a dedicated space for the elected councils to conduct sessions out of. The existing council building at NR Square, next to Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) head office, falls under Bengaluru Central City Corporation limits.Bengaluru North and South city corporations have both earmarked separate funds for the purpose in the recently presented budgets. Both these civic bodies will have 72 corporators each after elections. However, they are yet to come up with concrete plans for their respective head offices and council halls.Bengaluru North City Corporation (BNCC) commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar said they are looking to hire commercial spaces, preferably along the Airport Road, to house the elected council. While this option may not be financially sustainable in the long run, BNCC is also planning a permanent head office building that will house the council hall. The commissioner has approached the University of Agricultural Sciences (GKVK) for a 3 to 5-acre plot on which the corporation’s office can be constructed. “We have earmarked Rs 40 crore for the office building in our budget this year. As our offices are scattered across Bytarayanapura, Dasarahalli and other areas, we are planning a building that houses all the senior officials as well as the council,” Kumar said. However, it is said that the university has not come forward with a positive response.Meanwhile, South corporation has set aside Rs 150 crore for its own building on a plot opposite Banashankari temple on Kanakapura Road. The corporation currently houses the commissioner’s office at Jayanagar 2nd Block, in the building that used to be the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) south zone office.
