Patna: NDA partners BJP, JD(U) and LJP (Ram Vilas) said the main purpose of holding an extended Parliament session from April 16 to 18 is to ensure maximum women’s participation and representation in the 2029 Lok Sabha election. The budget session, which was likely to conclude on April 2, will debate amendments to the Constitution (106th Amendment) Act, popularly known as the Women’s Reservation Act 2023, which seeks to provide 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. The additional Parliament sittings are aimed at speeding up its implementation. While Bihar BJP president Sanjay Saraogi and JD(U) national spokesman Rajeev Ranjan Prasad on Friday said the primary objective behind the exercise is to ensure women’s participation in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections, union minister and LJP(RV) chief Chirag Paswan asserted Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always worked in favour of ‘aadhi abaadi’.Saraogi said the PM is committed to ensuring women’s representation in legislative bodies and the Centre aims to ensure no further delay in women receiving the benefits of this reservation.Paswan criticised the opposition in Patna on the issue and said the Modi govt delivers on its promises. He asserted this is not a mere electoral stunt but a historic step towards granting half of the population their rightful due.JD(U) leader Prasad said the amendment would bring a women’s revolution in the 2029 polls. “Our goal is to ensure that by 2029, the number of women in Parliament should appear significantly higher and more impactful than ever before,” Prasad said.Prasad also indicated the vision through which Bihar CM Nitish Kumar empowered women in the state by providing them reservations in panchayati raj institutions and other sectors is now being reinforced at the national level by the NDA govt at the Centre.
