Mumbai: The 12109 CSMT-Manmad Panchvati Express departed Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) nearly two hours behind schedule on Saturday after Central Railway detached one reserved coach that developed a wheel defect before departure. The train, scheduled to leave at 6.15 pm, departed at 8.10 pm after the D-1 coach was declared “sick” during pre-departure checks while the rake was being placed on platform 10. Railway officials said carriage and wagon staff detected a defect in one of the coach’s wheels, following which it was removed from the rake and sent to the yard for repairs. The remaining coaches were then cleared for service, allowing the train to continue its journey to Nashik and Manmad.A Central Railway spokesperson said, “One coach of Panchvati Express was marked sick due to a wheel defect at CSMT this evening. The coach was detached and the remaining rake was dispatched on its onward journey. Passengers were adjusted in other coaches as there was no heavy rush because of Saturday.”Passengers booked in the affected coach were accommodated in vacant berths in other reserved coaches. Officials said the impact remained limited as weekend travel demand was lighter than usual, preventing major crowding at CSMT, Dadar and Kalyan.
