Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to meet U.S. President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the G7 summit taking place in Evian, France on June 16-17, official sources have told The Hindu. Mr. Trump has already announced that he will participate in the G7 summit hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron.
The meeting will mark the first interaction between Mr. Modi and Mr. Trump since they last met in February 2025 in Washington DC. The sources did not elaborate on the details of the planned discussion but it is understood that the two sides will cover the bilateral trade pact under negotiation, and other regional and global matters of mutual concern. The officials provided this information soon after sharing details on Mr. Modi’s upcoming travel schedule for France and the Slovak Republic.
The PM’s visit to France will take place in two segments, with the first segment stretching from June 13 to June 14, and the second taking place from June 16 to June 19. He will hold a meeting with Mr. Macron on June 14 in Nice, which has emerged as an important link in the India Middle East Economic Corridor (IMEEC) project that the Government of India has been advocating since the G20 summit of 2023. “In Nice, both leaders will also jointly inaugurate the ‘Bharat Innovates’ event, which will bring together top innovation startups and venture capital funds from India, France and other countries,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in its announcement of the visits.
In between the two segments of the France visit, from June 14 to June 16, Mr. Modi will pay a state visit to the Slovak Republic, where he will meet Prime Minister Robert Fico. “This will be the first ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Slovakia since its independence in 1993,” the MEA’s stated.
President Droupadi Murmu had visited Slovakia in April 2025, which was followed by a visit from Slovak President Peter Pellegrini for the AI Impact Summit in February this year. “The visit will reaffirm India’s commitment towards strengthening its bilateral relationship with Slovakia in various sectors, including trade, investment, and automobile and railway manufacturing,” the MEA said. Mr. Modi will also meet Mr. Pellegrini.
Towards the conclusion of the trip, Mr. Modi will return to France to participate in the G7 summit in Evian on June 16-17. “On the sidelines of the summit, the Prime Minister will also hold bilateral meetings with several world leaders,” the MEA said.
Following this, Mr. Modi will visit Paris on June 18 for “further bilateral engagements, and to attend the VivaTech Summit, Europe’s largest technology and startup event,” the MEA said. He is also expected attend a meeting with the Indian community in Paris.
