Patiala: AAP MLA from Samana Chetan Singh Jouramajra appeared at the ongoing Tower Protest in Patiala on Tuesday, took the stage to reply questions raised by protestors and assured them that he would raise his voice for an anti-sacrilege law. His appearance followed an ultimatum issued by organisers a day after a city shutdown and a large protest march on March 2, when they warned him to appear by 1 PM or face demonstrations at his residence.Gurjeet Singh Khalsa has been sitting in protest atop a 400-foot BSNL tower in Samana since Oct 12-2024, demanding a stringent anti-sacrilege law to protect holy scriptures. His health remained critical, with recent reports of fragility and calls for urgent passage of the Punjab Prevention of Offences Against Holy Scripture(s) Bill, 2025, during the ongoing budget session. Protest coordinator Gurpreet Singh and organiser Amitoj Singh Mann emphasised passing the law to avoid tragedies like the Bargari incident.
The protestors confronted Jouramajra over a police action on Feb 24, and demanded an apology. “I appeared as a humble Sikh at the protest. I assured them to raise my voice for the anti-sacrilege law and the law will definitely be passed,” Jouramajra told TOI, while adding that law and order has to be maintained by the police. The event marked a rare instance of an AAP MLA engaging directly with agitators over govt shortcomings.
