Ahmedabad: Amdavadis caught a slight break from the burgeoning heat this Friday, as the city’s mercury performed a modest retreat. After flirting with 37.7°C on Thursday, the maximum temperature settled at a relatively more manageable 36.3°C. While technically still 2.5 degrees above the seasonal “normal”, the dip was a welcome relief for those navigating the city’s sun-drenched streets. The nights, too, offered a marginal reprieve. The minimum temperature clocked in at 21.4°C — nearly four degrees higher than typical for early March, but a slight improvement over Thursday’s stifling 22.5°C.However, the IMD warns that this is merely a “cool” intermission in a much hotter play. Starting Saturday, the thermostat is set for a slow climb, with temperatures expected to creep up by another 2-3 degrees over the coming week. While the city simmers, the coastline is under pressure. A yellow alert has been issued for the Saurashtra-Kutch and coastal regions, where the air is expected to turn into a heavy, humid blanket. For now, Bhuj was the hottest spot in the state, recording a high of 37.2°C.
