Hyderabad: Close a year after a 40-year-old woman went missing from her Jawaharnagar home, the police on Wednesday arrested her younger daughter and beau for allegedly killing the mother and burying the body in her own bedroom. The duo even sealed the floor with concrete, to avoid being caught, cops said.Jawaharnagar police said the victim, Anju Dasari, worked as a house maid and lived with two daughters, 20 and 17 years respectively. On Oct 17, 2025, her elder daughter Roshini Kumari lodged a police complaint claiming that her mother had been missing since May 12. In her complaint, she stated that Anju left home for work and did not return. While the police investigation did not lead to any result initially, recent statements of the teenager were found to be inconsistent, cops said. Based on suspicion, they scanned her Call Data Records (CDR) which only strengthened their doubt. “Through her CDR, we tracked down her boyfriend Monti Kumar Singh — a 22-year-old auto diver — and took the two into custody on March 17,” said Ch Sridhar, deputy commissioner of police (Malkajgiri zone). “During interrogation Singh and the minor girl confessed to the murder and said how it was executed,” he added.Based on their statement, the victim’s body was exhumed on Wednesday. The two were booked under Sections 103 (1) (murder), 238 (intentionally destroying evidence) of the BNS and will be produced before concerned magistrate soon. Accused told police that they decided to kill Anju since she was not in favour of Singh’s relationship with her daughter because she was a minor and the boy was from a different caste. In fact in 2024, Anju has even filed a police complaint against Singh who was subsequently arrested for violation of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and sent to jail for 50 days. After coming out on bail, again he allegedly reconnected with the minor. “When Anju came to know about it, she filed another case against Singh and he was re-arrested on the charge of violation of POCSO and rape by Bollaram police,” said a police official adding, “Since Anju had became a hurdle for their relationship, the duo decided to kill her when Singh got relief from jail the second time.” On May 12, when Anju returned home, Singh was waiting at her residence along with the co-accused. He stabbed Anju in the chest and killed her. Immediately, they wrapped her body and initially hid it under the cot for a day.Subsequently, they dug the floor and buried the body. To cover up the floor, they used concrete, police said. After a few days, the couple moved to Jeedimetla to Singh’s house where they were arrested from.Though there were reports about cops cracking down on the duo after they tried to sell Anju’s bike, investigators denied it. They also revealed why Roshni waited for five months before filing a missing complaint’s report. her“Initially, Roshni was made to believe by her sister that the victim might have got into a relationship with an unknown man and left. This, even as Singh married the minor at a temple, and later even impregnated her,” DCP said. Few months later, on the instigation of the minor girl, the two sisters went to recover the victim’s money from a man who runs a chit fund business. “He not only refused to give them the money but also did not believe the theory about Anju going missing. He insisted they file a missing complaint. That’s when the sisters approached the cops. However, the the minor made sure that Roshni stayed unaware of the murder,” a police official said.
