T’puram: Kerala Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (Milma) issued a summer advisory urging consumers, distributors and retail outlets to ensure proper storage of milk and curd to prevent spoilage as temperatures rose across Kerala. In a statement issued on Monday, Milma said milk sachets should always be stored in the refrigerator’s chiller compartment at a temperature of around 4–5 degrees Celsius until they are used. The advisory applied to Milma booth agents, distributors, vendors and household consumers. Consumers were also advised to purchase milk only from outlets where it was stored in refrigerated conditions. Milma cautioned that milk sachets should not be kept inside airtight plastic covers or bags for long periods while travelling, as exposure to heat may lead to spoilage. The federation also stressed the importance of hygiene while handling milk, noting that germs can multiply rapidly at room temperature. If milk developed an unusual smell, taste or texture, it should not be consumed. TNN
