Kanpur: A 38-year-old man was rescued in Etawah after police responded within minutes to an emotional Facebook post in which he expressed his intention to end his life, officials said.The man, a resident of the Jaswantnagar police station area, had uploaded a photograph with his wife along with a distressing message saying he could no longer cope with the turmoil in his life and was planning to take the extreme step. The post was flagged to Etawah police through Meta, triggering an immediate response.On Saturday, soon after receiving the alert, a Jaswantnagar police team rushed to the man’s residence. Family members informed officers that he had left home only moments earlier.Acting swiftly, a sub-inspector along with other police personnel launched a search operation and located him walking a short distance away. Officers intercepted him, counselled him on the spot and safely escorted him back home, preventing a possible tragedy.During interaction with the police, the man, a graduate who works as a photographer, revealed that he had been battling severe emotional distress due to a prolonged dispute with his wife, which had driven him towards suicidal thoughts. He told police he was heading towards a garden when he was stopped.Senior Superintendent of Police Brijesh Kumar Srivastava said, “Our personnel counselled him and made him understand the pain and hardship his family would suffer because of such an extreme step.”He later assured police that he would not attempt anything harmful in the future. Grateful family members lauded the prompt and sensitive response of the Jaswantnagar and Etawah police teams.
