Gaya: OPD services remained paralysed in the Anugrah Narain Magadh Medical College and Hospital (ANMMCH) for the second day on Tuesday as the striking medicos remained adamant and were not ready to take the promises made by officials.A 2024-batch student, while expressing his frustration said, “For several years we have lived on promises and this time we want action not promise. More than 400 medicos have been deprived of hostel accommodation and nobody seems to be bothered.”According to an estimate, on an average 1,500 patients who visit the OPDs on each working day were affected due to the strike. OPD services are provided in several departments, including surgery, medicine, gynaecology, eye, ENT and paediatrics. Special OPD services are available to dog bite victims and such cases are taken up by the preventive and social medicine department.Hospital insiders said though emergency services were hit on Sunday, the striking junior doctors, after much persuasion agreed to exempt emergency services from the agitation purview. As a result of the strike, the patient registration in the emergency ward too has come down as patients/attendants, particularly those of serious patients are looking for alternatives.According to hospital superintendent Dr Anand Prakash Anand, he along with the principal Dr Lata Shukla Dwivedi has held several rounds of talks with the striking medicos but they continue to be unrelenting. The superintendent further said the striking medicos said they would consider deferment of the agitation if some concrete action like internal road construction and lighting work begins. He has apprised the health department secretary Kumar Ravi of the situation prevailing on the hostel premises. He said the health secretary has promised to expedite the hostel construction work. On issues like construction/repair of internal roads, encroachment removal and eviction of illegal occupants, the health secretary said he would talk to the Gaya DM on these issues, said the hospital superintendent.Nearly 400 medical students of 2023, 2024 and 2025 batches live outside the hospital premises as two of the dilapidated hostel buildings have been notified condemned and one hostel is under illegal occupation of intruders. Asked about the immediate provocation as hostel problem was an old issue, former hospital superintendent Dr K K Sinha said he had no idea as everything was going on smoothly so long as he was at the helm. Dr Sinha got superannuated about a week back.
