Lucknow: To strengthen healthcare services, all medical colleges in UP, including the Kanpur Heart Disease Institute and JK Cancer Institute, will now be closely monitored by their heads. College principals and institute directors are directed to take daily rounds and send photographs as proof. Any negligence in this regard will not be tolerated.Acting on the instructions of deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak, principal secretary Partha Sarathi Sen Sharma issued these orders. If a principal or director is unavailable, the round will be conducted by vice-principal or chief medical superintendent (CMS). Security officers and sanitation supervisors must accompany them to ensure immediate redressal of any issue found during the inspection.Security arrangements are also being upgraded. Ex-servicemen will be deployed, especially at sensitive points such as girls’ hostels and emergency units. Principals are asked to coordinate with the Sainik Kalyan Nigam for these appointments.To enhance surveillance, CCTV cameras will be installed across hostels and hospital premises. Access to live footage will be given to principals, CMS, wardens and security officers. In case of lapses in cleanliness, food or laundry services, agencies will face strict action and deductions in payments.Pathak also directed that emergency wards and trauma centres must have sufficient doctors, nursing and paramedical staff and ensure 24-hour availability of pathology and radiology services. Blood banks must be efficiently operated and ALS ambulance coordination must be streamlined to provide timely service to patients.Further, ICU beds must be fully operational with adequate oxygen supply to save lives. The quality of food in hostels and for patients should be regularly inspected in coordination with the Food Safety and Drug Administration. All medical equipment in the institutes must be kept functional.He stressed increasing postgraduate (PG) medical seats by fulfilling NMC norms. Advertisements must be issued to fill regular faculty posts promptly and contractual recruitments should be conducted through regular interviews.
