Nagpur: Mayor Neeta Thakre on Tuesday directed officials to ensure immediate removal of silt extracted during desilting, warning that delays could lead to drains getting choked again before the monsoon.Reviewing pre-monsoon works in the Surendragad area, Thakre said unattended silt could wash back into drains, defeating the purpose of the exercise. She also stressed better coordination between elected representatives and civic officials to complete work on time.During her inspection, the mayor visited multiple sites, including ongoing divider and traffic diversion works at Bhandewadi Plot and a garden project near Sheetla Mata temple on Umred Road, opposite the EPFO office. At Bhandewadi Plot, where flyover construction and diversions are in progress, residents of Bapunagar and Makode Layout have been facing traffic disruptions. Thakre instructed officials to streamline diversions and minimise inconvenience to commuters. MLA Mohan Mate and deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Lohit Matani, who were present, also suggested measures to improve traffic flow.Later, the mayor reviewed a plantation site near Sheetla Mata temple, where nearly 1,000 trees — including peepal, neem, and karanj — planted in 2022 have taken root. Praising the initiative, she described it as a successful example of sustained civic effort. Tree officer Amol Chaurpagar briefed her on the project.
