Daltonganj: The key accused in the May 23 Rampur firing case, Mantu Singh (50), surrendered before the court of the sub-divisional judicial magistrate at the Daltonganj civil court on Tuesday, police said.One Sikander Choudhury died, while four others from his group sustained bullet injuries in the firing incident, which took place at Rampur village under the Chainpur police station limits on May 23. The incident was a result of an over two-decade land dispute between members of the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and upper caste communities. Both sides claim to possess valid documents related to the disputed land, police said.A total of 17 people were named in the FIR. Two others were arrested earlier. Officer in charge of the Chainpur police station Lalji said, “More accused in this case would surrender either in front of the police or the court as time is running out for them.”Singh was booked under 13 sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including murder, along with provisions of the Arms Act. Efforts are under way to nab the remaining 14, police added.Sadar SDO Sulochana Meena imposed prohibitory orders at Rampur village under Section 163 of the BNS from June 2 to June 30.
