T’puram: Police on Monday arrested a friend of Shahjahan, an expatriate, for allegedly masterminding the theft of 37 sovereigns of gold from the latter’s house at Poovar.The arrested Noushad, 42, is a native of Thekke Theruvu. He is the second accused in the case and first accused remains absconding.Poovar police said Noushad, who is allegedly involved in several theft cases, was a friend of Shahjahan. Police found that Noushad had conspired to carry out the theft and roped in his associate Naufal to execute the plan. Taking advantage of Shahjahan’s house being unoccupied on Jan 28, the accused allegedly broke in and decamped with 37 sovereigns of gold ornaments.After committing the theft, the accused are suspected to have fled to Tamil Nadu.
