Jhansi: A 36-year-old married woman was critically injured after being repeatedly stabbed by her 25-year-old brother-in-law in Nainagarh area on Saturday, police said. The accused later died by suicide.Police said the attack was apparently linked to an alleged extramarital affair. The woman lived with her husband, a loader driver, and their five-year-old daughter. Early in the morning, while the husband was away for work, she was preparing her daughter for school when the accused — her husband’s cousin — entered the house, locked the door from inside and stabbed her several times. Hearing her mother’s screams, the child ran to the terrace and shouted for help. By the time neighbours came for help, the accused fled. Police shifted the woman to Jhansi Medical College, where she is in critical condition. A few hours later, while police were searching for him, the accused was found hanging in a nearby shop. According to the woman’s husband, she and the accused had allegedly been in an affair and had eloped two years ago. She later returned home, but the accused held a grudge, Premnagar SO Tulsi Ram Pandey said.
