Mysuru: The principal district and sessions court in Mysuru sentenced a man to life imprisonment in connection with a double murder case.The convict is Hanumantha, 55, a resident of T Narasipura taluk, Mysuru district.According to the prosecution, Hanumantha was cultivating land in a grazing area near Jenugudde. However, his elder brother Shivalingegowda allegedly prevented him from accessing the land and cultivated it himself for the past two to three years, reportedly using intimidation. This led to growing hostility between the brothers.In Aug 2023, Hanumantha learned that Shivalingegowda and his wife, Bharathi, were working in the field. The accused went to the spot carrying an axe and attacked Shivalingegowda. When Bharathi tried to intervene and rescue her husband, Hanumantha also assaulted her with the axe. Both Shivalingegowda and Bharathi died on the spot due to severe injuries.The investigation in the case was conducted by Manoj Kumar, then police inspector of Bannur police station, who later filed the chargesheet.After hearing the case, judge Usharani of the principal district and sessions court convicted Hanumantha and sentenced him to life imprisonment, along with a fine of Rs 1 lakh, according to a release from public prosecutor MN Ranjana Rao.
