Bengaluru: A 45-year-old man was killed in an early morning accident near Satellite Bus Stand (Mysore Road) Sunday after a car reversing at high speed rammed into him and crushed him against a parked bus. The incident occurred around 4.30am and was witnessed by his wife.The deceased, M Swamy Dorai, a pushcart fruit vendor from Siddartha Colony near Srigandhada Kaval, had just returned with his wife Jayashree from Tamil Nadu after attending a relative’s funeral. The couple was standing by the roadside, waiting to cross, when the incident took place.Police said a Hyundai i10 (KA-04-MP-9829) had been parked in a designated space between a hotel and the Kerala bus outgoing gate, the owner handed over the keys to a parking attendant. The accused Balasubramanyam, a marketing executive at a private firm, allegedly took the keys on the pretext of repositioning the vehicle, despite not being authorised to do so. He then reversed the car at high speed, hitting Dorai, dragging him and pinning him against a blood bank bus. Dorai died on the spot. Jayashree collapsed after witnessing the incident.Balasubramanyam fled immediately. Bystanders rushed Dorai to Victoria Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. Later, Byatarayanapura traffic police traced and arrested the accused. An alcometer test showed a reading of 89 gm/100 ml, indicating heavy intoxication.Based on a complaint filed by Dorai’s son, police have registered a case under BNS Section 105 for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The accused has been remanded in judicial custody.
