Gurgaon: A 48-year-old man died after being hit by a car near Manipal Hospital in Palam Vihar on Thursday night, around 2am, while he was removing a pipe lying on the road to prevent any accidents. The car driver has been arrested.Harindra Nath, a resident of New Palam Vihar, who worked at a private company, went to Mehendipur Balaji with his manager. On their way back, the manager dropped Nath at Sector 23. From there, he booked a bike taxi to reach home and informed his family that he was coming for dinner. While on his way, when the duo reached Manipal Hospital, they found that pipes were lying on the road blocking the road ahead.Just as Nath got off the motorcycle and was trying to remove the pipes from the road to avert any accident, a Tata Nexon car, bearing registration number HR26FF2861, coming from Rezang La Chowk side at high speed, hit him and then ran over him.The bike taxi driver who witnessed the accident said the impact threw Nath several metres away, and he landed on the car. However, the car driver did not stop; instead, he drove over Nath in an attempt to flee the scene.He was rushed to a govt hospital in Sector 10 but succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Later, a police team reached the accident site. The body was later shifted to the mortuary and handed over the body to the family for the last rites.Nath’s daughter, Charu Sharma, said his body had visible tyre marks on his body.Based on his wife’s complaint, a case was registered at Palam Vihar police station under sections 106 (death by negligence) and 281 (rash driving) of the BNS. Following this, Anand Yadav (30), a yoga instructor and resident of UP, was arrested while he was returning home after attending a dinner.“He will be produced before the court, and strict action will be taken against him,” an officer said.
