Mangaluru: A man has lost Rs 44 lakh in an investment scam.In a complaint, the victim stated that in Dec last year he came across a man who introduced himself as Mahesh Poonia from an Instagram account titled ‘Humshafare’.Poonia contacted the complainant via WhatsApp, claiming to offer profitable investment opportunities. The complainant allegedly transferred a total of Rs 44 lakh in phases to multiple bank accounts provided by the accused between Jan 15 and Jan 17. Subsequently, the complainant managed to withdraw a small amount. However, when he requested the amount to be returned, the accused insisted that he invest even more money. This raised suspicion, prompting the complainant to consult friends, after which he realised he was cheated. A case was registered in CEN crime police station.
