Jaipur: A man allegedly bludgeoned his 32-year-old wife to death in their home in Bagru area on the outskirts of the city Saturday evening. He then fled with their nine-year-old son before abandoning the child at a relative’s house in Greater Noida and disappearing. The incident occurred in Bagru police station area, where police identified the victim as Priyanka (32). She was found dead on the bed with head injuries, suggesting she was attacked with a heavy object, an official said. A senior police official said that the accused was identified as Lalit Gautam, Priyanka’s husband of 11 years.Originally from Mathura, Priyanka lived in Jaipur with Lalit and their son for the past four years. Lalit worked for a private company in the Mahindra SEZ area.According to sources, an argument is suspected to have broken out between the couple around 5pm Saturday. Lalit allegedly struck Priyanka on the head, killing her on the spot. He then locked the house from the outside and fled with their son.Concerned by Priyanka’s silence, her family made repeated phone calls. When they received no response, they asked neighbours to check. The house was locked, but lights and appliances were on. Through a window, neighbours saw a woman’s feet on the bed and alerted the police. The control room alerted the Bagru police, which arrived around 10.30pm, broke the lock, and found Priyanka’s blood-soaked body. An FSL team was called to collect evidence. The body was sent for post-mortem to Bagru CHC and handed over to the family on Sunday morning.“Initial findings suggest the couple had frequent arguments over relocating. While Priyanka wished to continue living in Jaipur, Lalit wanted to sell the house and return to his native village near Greater Noida,” said the official.During the probe, police contacted Lalit’s relatives and learned that he dropped off his son at the home of his younger brother in Greater Noida. Lalit has not been seen since.Police have registered a case of murder and launched a search operation to track down the absconding accused. “The exact motive will be known only after Lalit is apprehended,” said an official.
