New Delhi: A 19-year-old man was arrested in Dwarka after he allegedly uploaded photographs of himself flaunting illegal firearms on social media. A police team had been keeping a close watch on social media platforms to identify individuals who post such content, posing with weapons or using such images as profile pictures. “Informers were also deployed to get any specific lead in this regard,” said DCP (Dwarka) Ankit Singh. Police identified one Sameer, a resident of Suraj Vihar in Kakrola, who had allegedly posted pictures brandishing a weapon. The team tracked him to Sector 17 of Dwarka, where he was apprehended. A country-made pistol, along with a live cartridge, was seized from his possession. A case was registered under sections of the Arms Act at Dwarka North police station. Sameer works as a delivery person and claimed that he had procured the weapon for “personal safety” while making deliveries late at night. He also disclosed the identity of the person who allegedly supplied him with the firearm as one Monu from Mangolpuri. Police said the accused revealed that he wanted to project himself as a “badmash” in his locality and among his friends, which prompted him to post the photographs.
