Kendrapada: A 27-year-old tribal man was arrested for allegedly killing his wife at Samia village under Bairi police station limits in Jajpur district on Thursday night. Police said the accused, Guru Birua, returned home drunk leading to an argument with his wife, Parbati Birua (24). In a fit of rage, he attacked her with a wooden plank, causing severe head injuries and she lost consciousness.
“Villagers rushed her to the community health centre at Barachana on Thursday night, where doctors declared her dead. Police later arrested Birua under BNS section 103 (murder),” said IIC, Bairi police station, Ansumala Das. Residents alleged that the unchecked flow of illicit liquor and drugs in the area has fuelled rising crime.
