Rajkot: A Division police arrested one Nawaz Khan Pathan for allegedly abducting and sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl near her home in the early hours of Monday.The victim’s mother, 35, lodged a complaint at A Division police station. According to the complaint, the family was woken by a commotion near their house around 5.00am on March 23. On investigating, they found the girl near the house, accompanied by the accused, Nawaz Khan Pathan, a resident of the Jangleshwar area. Pathan, who was interacting with the girl, fled in his car after being spotted, prompting a pursuit by the victim’s uncle.The girl later revealed that around 3am, she received a message from Pathan asking her to come outside. When she complied, he told her to get into his car. On her refusal, he allegedly grabbed her hand and forced her into the vehicle. She was then taken to an undisclosed location where she was sexually assaulted. The victim told her family that Pathan has been continually harassing her over the phone despite being told to stop.Based on the mother’s complaint, A Division police registered a case against Pathan under Sections 75 and 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 8 and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.
