Koderma: The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge-I, Ghulam Haider, on Tuesday sentenced a 23-year-old for murdering a woman in 2021. Shashi Kumar, a resident of Vidyapuri in Jhumri Tilaiya, was found guilty under Section 302 of the IPC for the killing.In addition to the life term, the court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000, with an additional year of prison mandated if the fine is not paid. The court also pronounced a five-year sentence and a Rs 5,000 fine under Section 201 of the IPC for the destruction of evidence, noting that all sentences will run concurrently and the penalty will be given to the victim’s family.On January 29, 2021 Pani Tanki Road resident Prabhu Verma, who runs a jewellery and utensils shop, lodged an FIR with the Telaiya police station accusing Shashi of stabbing his wife, Meena Devi. In her fifties, Meena was stabbed in her head and hands. One of the couple’s three sons, Yash, found her in a pool of blood at home in the afternoon. She was admitted to a private hospital and succumbed to her injuries while being shifted to sadar hospital for better care.Public Prosecutor Praveen Kumar Singh said, “The accused was enraged because he suspected one of Meena’s sons, Pritam, was talking to his girlfriend on the phone. Shashi went to Verma’s house to threaten Pritam. Shashi turned his anger toward Meena after learning that Pritam was not at home and attacked her lethally.” Nineteen witnesses were examined during the trial.
