Chennai: Tiruvallur Pocso court sentenced a 27-year-old man to 22 years of imprisonment to be undergone concurrently for kidnapping and raping a 16-year-old girl. District Pocso court Judge Uma Mahesh delivered the verdict after prosecution proved the guilt of the accused, identified as Mahat. The court handed down the sentence under multiple sections of Pocso Act. The case originated in 2024 when the victim, a resident of Padi, was reported missing. Following a complaint filed at J J Nagar police station, investigators located the girl two days later. During the initial probe, the victim revealed that she was kidnapped and subjected to sexual assault. The case was subsequently transferred to Thirumangalam all women police, who conducted a comprehensive investigation that led to identification and arrest of Mahat.
