Nagpur: A 37-year-old man, Nitin Bahire, was arrested by Beltarodi police on Saturday for allegedly flashing at women and girls near Khapri Metro Station, a desolate area opposite Narayana Vidyalaya on Wardha Road.The incident occurred around 11am when a 17-year-old girl and her friend were heading to Airport Metro Station, and were targeted by Bahire, who made obscene gestures and exposed himself near a car parking area. The accused, a resident of Chhatrapati Nagar, and a native of Gondia, was apprehended after alert Mahametro employees and security guards intervened, handing him over to the police.The police registered a case under Section 75(1)(1) of the BNS and Sections 8 and 12 of the Pocso Act. Bahire worked for a private company in Mihan and claimed he was inspecting a plot near the station as a potential buyer. Bahire allegedly exposed himself under the pretext of relieving himself near a bush. This is the second such incident in the area within months, raising concerns about safety.Senior inspector Mukund Kawade has written to Metro authorities, urging immediate action to install adequate lighting, CCTV cameras, and deploy round-the-clock security guards to prevent further incidents. The desolate location of Khapri Metro Station has made it a hotspot for such crimes, with women and schoolgirls reporting harassment. “We have intensified patrolling in the Khapri metro station area. Senior officers are also relentlessly visiting the desolate places, including Khapri metro station,” said Kawade.
