Vadodara: A resident of Gotri in Vadodara city has filed a complaint of cheating, forgery, and criminal breach of trust at Atladara police station against his estranged wife and the school where his two daughters are studying. The complainant has accused the school of illegally changing his daughters’ surnames in connivance with his wife without seeking his permission.According to the complainant, his relationship with his wife turned sour after she allegedly got into an extramarital affair a few years ago. The wife shifted from Gurgaon to Mehsana and got their daughters admitted to a school there. The complainant further stated that she later relocated from Mehsana to Vadodara in 2021, where their daughters were admitted to Vibgyor School on Bil Road. The complainant said that the school leaving certificate from the Mehsana school carried his name and surname. However, Vibgyor School in Vadodara allegedly removed his name and surname and added the mother’s surname in their records. The 44-year-old complainant, an HR professional, stated that the school does not have the right to change his daughters’ surnames or remove his name without his consent or a court order. The complainant, a native of Delhi, also said that he contacted the state education department, whose officials informed him that a school cannot change students’ names in this manner. He further alleged in the FIR that his wife changed the surnames of both daughters to facilitate leaving the country, claiming she was involved in certain scams. He added that she was currently working in Surat. The complainant said that he contacted the school authorities last year and requested that his daughters’ original surnames be restored. They allegedly assured him that the records would be corrected. However, when the school management failed to restore the surnames, the complainant filed a case in court in Aug last year. Four days ago, the court directed the police to register a complaint, following which an FIR was filed on Saturday night.
