Kanpur: A salon owner died in Ratanlal Nagar on Monday after electric poles collapsed during excavation work on a vacant plot adjacent to Dabauli KESCO substation.The deceased was identified as Riyaz Ahmad, 40, native of Bhatamohammadpur village in Chhapra, Bihar, and currently residing in Barra 4.The incident occurred when a tree got uprooted by a loader driver and fell on electric wires. The tension led to five poles breaking and collapsing onto the road, disrupting power supply for three hours. Two of the poles fell on the victim who ran a hair dresser shop in a shanty outside the KESCO substation. People rushed him to a nearby hospital, from where he was taken to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital but he had died by then. The backhoe loader driver fled from the spot.DCP South Deependra Nath Chaudhary said information about the plot owner is being gathered. Further action will be taken after obtaining a written complaint from the victim’s family.
