Kanpur: A 36-year-old man died after a knife he allegedly picked up to attack his wife during a domestic dispute got lodged in his own neck in Kanpur on Friday.The incident took place under the Naubasta police station area. Police said a fight broke out after the wife refused to let her husband consume alcohol. According to the deceased’s daughter, at around 9.30am, her mother and father entered into an argument over alcohol, which soon escalated into a physical fight.During this, she said, her father picked up a knife from the kitchen and charged at her mother to attack her. The mother tried to grab his hand in self-defense. During the scuffle, she said that her father stumbled and fell on the ground, and the knife he was holding got plunged into his own neck, leaving him in a pool of blood. When the mother raised an alarm, the deceased’s brother reached the room and rushed him to LLR Hospital, where he was declared dead before arrival.Naubasta inspector, Bahadur Singh, said that upon reaching the scene, the blood at the site had already been cleaned up allegedly by the the elder daughter.Police have seized the knife used in the incident. A forensic team has been called to the site to collect evidence. Further action will be taken based on the post-mortem report and forensic investigation, police said.
