Chitradurga: A 40-year-old man from Gilikenahalli village died on Monday after consuming poison outside the town police station on Sunday. The deceased, Ajjayya, was distressed over the alleged inaction of authorities in the case of his underage daughter’s inter-caste marriage.Ajjayya visited the police station on July 13 to report his minor daughter’s disappearance and requested officials to register a case under Pocso against the young man who allegedly took her away. When the police delayed registering the case, Ajjayya consumed poison after allegedly threatening to harm himself.Despite receiving prompt medical treatment, he did not survive and passed away on Monday. Outraged by his death, villagers organised a protest by placing Ajjayya’s body in front of the police station while expressing their anger towards police. The demonstration later moved to the main road, causing traffic disruptions. Police had to use lathi charge to scatter the protesters and transported the deceased’s body in an ambulance.
