Surat: Dindoli police have booked a man for rape after he allegedly assaulted and later abandoned a 28-year-old woman he had married just a month earlier on May 15. The woman, who had divorced her first husband, filed a complaint after the accused disappeared from Surat.According to the police, the victim and the accused, came in contact through social media in 2023. Over the next two years, they developed a relationship, during which the accused proposed marriage and promised to relocate with her to Delhi after securing a job.The woman had been married since 2010 and has two daughters. Due to marital discord, she had started living separately, while her daughters remained with her husband. Following her growing closeness with the accused, she obtained a divorce from her first husband.In June 2024, the accused allegedly took the woman to a hotel in Pal and raped her, assuring her of marriage. However, when she brought up the subject of marriage, he continued to delay it, citing various reasons including the pending marriage of his elder brother. During this period, the victim has alleged that the accused also physically and verbally abused her.Eventually, on April 18, 2025, the couple got married at the Ambaji temple in Surat. However, just a month later, on May 15, he allegedly abandoned the woman and left the city without any contact.Following his disappearance, the woman approached the police and filed a rape complaint.
