T’puram: Cantonment police on Wednesday arrested a 60-year-old man for allegedly attempting to murder his elderly mother at their residence in Vanchiyoor on Monday evening. The accused, Johny, of Kannamoola, was taken into custody following the incident. He was booked under BNS Section 109 for attempted murder.Police said Johny got into a verbal altercation with his 82-year-old mother, Selvi. During the argument, he allegedly attacked her with a sharp weapon, causing serious injuries. Selvi was rushed to medical college hospital, where she is undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit. Her condition is said to be critical.After the attack, Johny allegedly attempted suicide by cutting his neck. He is also undergoing treatment at MCH under police observation. Police said Johny has previous cases registered at the Cantonment police station, including for creating public nuisance and assault.
