Berhampur: A 34-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly hacking his younger brother to death at Karanjakua village under Mohana police limits in Gajapati district on Sunday. Police identified the accused as Gobinda Mallick, a labourer, and the deceased as Lubi Mallick (32), an auto-rickhshaw driver and father of four.According to police, Lubi was quarrelling with his wife after consuming liquor on Sunday night. Hearing the commotion, Gobinda rushed to the house and tried to intervene. A heated argument broke out between the two brothers, during which the elder brother allegedly attacked Lubi with an axe, killing him on the spot.
Based on a complaint lodged by the deceased’s wife, Rajani Mallick, police registered a murder case and arrested the accused. The axe used in the crime has been seized, police said.
