Berhampur: A 27-year-old man, who was out on bail in a child abuse case, was re-arrested on Tuesday for allegedly stalking and obstructing the same 14-year-old girl when she was returning from school. The accused from K. Nuagaon police station area, faces charges under BNS and Pocso Acts following a complaint lodged by the girl’s father at Baidyanathpur police station on Monday.The accused allegedly offered the girl chocolates and pressured her to elope with him. He also threatened to harm her or distribute her nude photos and videos on social media if she refused, according to the girl’s father.Investigations revealed that the accused was initially arrested on March 31 under similar charges and was in judicial custody for some time before being released on bail, said SP (Berhampur) Saravana Vivek M. In a separate incident, police arrested a 29-year-old man from Santoshpur, near Hinjili, for allegedly attempting to rape a teacher in Ganjam district. The accused reportedly came in touch with the victim over social media a year ago, leading to a friendship and regular phone communication. On July 13, the accused offered to assist the victim with shopping in Berhampur, picking her up and taking her to Bada Bazar. He later took her to his aunt’s house, where he allegedly attempted to sexually assault her. The woman managed to escape, and with sufficient prima facie evidence, the man was arrested, said SP (Berhampur).
