Gorakhpur: A man was arrested for barging into the house of a 20-year-old woman, assaulting her and attempting to rape her in Shahpur area of Gorakhpur, police said on Monday. The man arrested was identified as Rahmat Ali. Police said, the woman was alone at home on Mar 5, as her mother had gone to a neighbour’s house to exchange Holi greetings. In her complaint, the woman alleged that a youth from the neighbourhood entered her house and molested her. When she raised an alarm, the accused gagged her and attempted to rape her. Hearing her screams, the woman’s mother rushed inside the house. On seeing her, the accused fled the spot. Before leaving, he threatened the woman and her mother with dire consequences against informing anyone about the incident.The survivor was scared and approached Shahpur police station after three days and submitted a written complaint on Sunday.Based on the complaint, police registered an FIR against the accused and arrested him on Monday, said CO Gorakhnath Ravi Kumar Singh.TNN
