Thiruvananthapuram: Mamal Hospital in Kattakada has come out against medical negligence allegations raised against the hospital over the death of two-and-a-half-year-old Ayesha Fathima. In a news conference, the hospital authorities stated that there was no medical negligence. They claim that they provided all necessary emergency treatment to save Fathima’s life. When she was brought to the hospital on Feb 19, symptoms indicative of pneumonia were present. The doctors advised taking the child to SAT Hospital. On Feb 22, Fathima was brought back to the hospital with severe breathing difficulties. A blood sample was taken that day and nebulisation was also performed. During treatment, the child suffered cardiac arrest, and adrenaline was administered as an emergency measure. The family was informed about the cardiac arrest. The child was still alive when she was shifted to Neyyar Medicity, said Mamal Hospital superintendent Dr Shivakumari. Fathima’s parents, Siddique Shah and Fasilath, alleged medical negligence behind the death. They alleged that the child’s condition worsened after an injection given at Mamal Hospital. When the condition worsened, the child was shifted to Neyyar Medicity. However, doctors there declared her dead on arrival.
