Mohali: A court here on Tuesday issued a notice to Punjab additional director general of police (ADGP), prisons, directing him to submit a report on inmate security protocols as SAD functionary Bikram Singh Majithia alleged a life to his threat while in prison. The development came during a hearing on a petition filed by Majithia, a former Punjab minister, seeking a change of jail barrack. The court also issued a separate notice to the state govt, seeking its response on Majithia’s regular bail application, with both matters now scheduled for hearing on July 25.Another plea related to the handover of keys to Majithia’s house in Mashobra, Himachal Pradesh, currently in the custody of the vigilance bureau, has been deferred to Aug 2 for arguments. Majithia, who is in judicial custody in connection with a disproportionate assets case, filed a petition on July 12, seeking to be shifted to a separate jail cell. Citing his Z-plus security cover and alleged threats to his life, the SAD leader argued his current accommodation with other inmates posed a serious risk to his personal safety.Majithia was arrested on June 30 by the Punjab vigilance bureau from his Amritsar residence on charges of possessing assets beyond his known sources of income. After 12 days in police remand, Majithia was remanded in judicial custody, when the bureau chose not to seek an extension. In his petition, Majithia urged the court to consider his security classification and threat perception, and to issue directions ensuring appropriate and safe lodging arrangements during his custody.
