Nagpur: The Novo Nordisk Education Foundation (NNEF), in partnership with Govt Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Nagpur, on Monday inaugurated Maharashtra’s first ‘Sickle Cell Wellness Hub’, aimed at providing comprehensive, long-term and patient-centric care for people living with sickle cell disease (SCD).GMCH dean Dr Raj Gajbhiye and Vikrant Shrotriya, managing trustee, NNEF, opened the wellness hub in the presence of Gautam Dongre, general secretary, National Alliance of Sickle Cell Organisations (NASCO), and noted SCD expert Dr Dipty Jain.Dr Gajbhiye said Maharashtra carries a significant burden of sickle cell disease, with high prevalence across 21 districts, particularly in the Vidarbha and Satpura regions. The Wellness Hub will offer early and timely diagnosis, continuous monitoring, access to treatment, nutritional guidance, counselling and self-care education. The facility is designed to be child-friendly and will also focus on capacity building of healthcare professionals through training and skill development. Regular awareness and education camps for patients and caregivers will be organised.
