Thane: The Thane district administration has finished its preparations for India’s first fully digital census 2027. As part of the pre-enumeration exercise, a training programme for field trainers was inaugurated on April 6. It aims to equip technical manpower for the upcoming census operations. The preparation has been planned under the guidance of district collector Dr Srikrishna Panchal. The training programme was held in the presence of tehsildar (general administration) Sachin Chaudhar. The entire process was supervised by deputy collector Rupali Bhalke, with a focus on ensuring accurate dissemination of information to enumerators. According to officials, a total of 64 field trainers have been trained in two batches of 32 each. The training, which ended today, was conducted under the guidance of master trainers Vinod Bhamre, Tehsildar (non-agricultural), Kalyan, and Swati Ghongde, Tehsildar (municipal area). The sessions primarily focus on the first phase of census 2027 was house listing and housing enumeration. With the shift to a digital format, enumerators will use the CMMS portal and HLBC mobile application instead of traditional paper forms. Hands-on training was provided on the use of these applications, along with inputs on census laws, rules and data collection procedures. These field trainers will further prepare nearly 4,000 enumerators and supervisors across nine administrative charges under the district between April 27 and May 8. Highlighting the importance of accuracy, Panchal expressed confidence that digital tools would enhance transparency in data collection. Notably, for the first time, citizens will be able to opt for self-enumeration by logging into the official govt portal and submitting their details between May 1 and May 15.The field-level exercise for house listing and housing census will be conducted from May 16 to June 14. The district administration has stated that all efforts are being made to ensure no area is left uncovered and that data collection is completed within the stipulated time frame.
