THANE: A 33-year-old man was killed after he fell off a moving outstation train, which he boarded to use its washroom at Thane station platform 5, in the early hours of Thursday, police informed based on primary investigations.The victim, who worked in a private company and lived in Kasheli with his family, including his wife and two-year-old child, came to Thane station to see off his wife. She was travelling in a mail express train to their native place in Uttar Pradesh to attend the funeral of a relative.“Primary investigations revealed the man climbed into the coach of another long-distance train standing at platform number 5 at Thane around 12:30 am to use its washroom. However, as the train started, he apparently panicked, jumped off, lost balance, and fell underneath the train on the tracks, suffering fatal injuries. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead,” said a Thane railway police official.The police said they registered an accidental death case and will access the CCTV footage at the platform to investigate the case further. Meanwhile, the father of the deceased, who rushed to Thane after the mishap, said his daughter-in-law was initially unaware of the mishap and continued with her journey, thinking that he might alight at the next station. The family is now worried about the future of the deceased’s child and his mother.The railways have been continuously cautioning passengers about the dangers and discouraging them from alighting or boarding moving trains.
