Thane: The Kasarvadavali police booked five persons, including officials of a construction firm and labour contractors, after a 25-year-old worker was left paralysed following a fall at a construction site in Thane. The FIR was registered on March 11 after the injured labourer returned from his native village and lodged a formal complaint.According to police, the victim, Pawankumar Dinesh Ram, a native of Jharkhand, worked at the North Imperials Green Project in Vihang Valley, Phase-1, Anandnagar. On Sept 8, 2025, while installing aluminium shuttering plates on the second floor of the building, he allegedly lost his balance near an open duct and fell nearly 20 feet onto an iron mesh on the ground floor. In his complaint, Ram alleged that basic safety measures were missing at the site. He claimed that workers operating at heights were not provided with safety belts and that the open duct through which he fell was not secured with a protective net. After the fall, fellow workers rushed him to a private hospital in Thane, where doctors found that he suffered two spinal fractures and severe nerve compression in both legs, leaving him unable to move his lower body. Due to the risk involved, he was later shifted to a govt hospital in Mumbai, where he underwent spinal surgery on Sept 16.Police said Ram was discharged in Oct and spent several months recovering in his hometown before returning to Thane and filing a complaint with the support of a labour union. The accused were booked under the BNS for acts endangering life or personal safety, along with Section 3(5) for common intention.
